Printing is what you use when the artwork cannot be woven: photographs, gradients, fine type, a hundred colours, or a design that changes every month. There is no loom set-up, so a run of twelve costs the same per unit to prepare as a run of five thousand.

It is a surface layer. That is not a criticism, it is a description — and it is the honest counterpart to everything we say about jacquard. A printed throw will soften and lose a little depth over years of washing in a way a woven design will not.

How much it loses depends entirely on the method. We use reactive and pigment printing rather than a heat-applied film, because a film on a throw goes stiff, cracks along the fold lines and eventually peels. If a supplier will not tell you which method they use, assume the film.
